codebase-pattern-extraction
Made by JeffMine patterns that recur across multiple projects and generalize into reusable artifacts. Use when "I've seen this before", DRY across repos, or building shared libraries.

New: Codebase Pattern Extraction, solve once and reuse across every project you ship
If you solved it twice, you'll solve it again. This skill mines patterns that recur across multiple projects (CLI/TUI architecture, distribution and installation, performance and search, agent ergonomics) and extracts them into reusable artifacts: a library, a skill, or a template.
- Rule of three: extract a pattern only after three independent occurrences; don't abstract from one or two examples
- Five-step pipeline: collect, diff/align, abstract the invariant core, parameterize what varies, package as a library, skill, or template
- Diff/align technique: line the instances up side by side, mark what is common and what varies, and record how each variance point becomes a parameter
- Output formats per pattern: a library if the abstraction is code, a skill if it is a workflow, a template if it is project structure, plus shared config, CLI-flag modules, and install scripts
- Worked examples of patterns already found this way: CLI robot mode, multi-platform installers with checksums, SQLite + git-tracked JSONL dual persistence
Two prompts and a five-step pipeline. The research prompt spans several mature projects and identifies common patterns (CLI/TUI architecture, distribution and installation, performance and search, agent ergonomics). The extraction prompt collects three or more instances of one pattern, diffs what's common against what varies per project, abstracts the invariant core, parameterizes the varying parts, and packages the result as a library, skill, or template with tests. cass searches across your past sessions help find the instances in the first place.
